“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every MORNING… ” — Lamentations 3:22-23
God doesn’t desire money from us or material goods. God desires our time. He wants to grow intimacy with us. He wants us to open up to Him and trust Him and listen to Him. The only way to effectively grow a relationship is to spend time together and communicate, and our relationship with God is no different. Furthermore, spending your time with God first thing in the morning helps you to focus, eradicate worry, doubt, and fear. Also, I find that reading God’s words and receiving affirmation, confidence, assurance, and strength from Him before hopping on social media– helps me to begin my day on a good foot. So many bad things are going on in our world today, and messages have power. Read the Good News before anything else. I know many people aren’t morning people– I am one of those people. But relationships take discipline and sacrifice, so I am working on waking up earlier to not have to rush my routine. I am not perfect, but I am striving to grow. So, this blog is for me just as much as it is for you. Don’t beat yourself up. Start with 10 minutes of your morning before starting your day and work your way up. You can also incorporate these suggestions into your whole morning routine. Here are some ways that you can start your day the right way!!!!
Devotionals are a great way to receive a Word as soon as you wake up. They can be emailed to you, there are devotional books to purchase, free iBook downloads, and the Bible App has great devotionals as well. You can also supplement this by reading a chapter of a book in the Bible such as Psalms or Proverbs, which gives great practical advice on how to live our lives daily.
Prayer is our communication with God. Reciting the Shepherd’s Psalm (Psalm 23), the Lord’s Prayer or any other scriptures of affirmation during prayer are great ways to receive peace of mind, power, and strength to get through your day. Thank God for allowing you to see another day and give your day to Him. Pray for others as well. Prayer helps to clear your mind! Walking into a new day with a clear mind is so important. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7
In Christianity, meditation is reflecting on God’s Word and applying it to your life. Actively think about what you read in your devotional throughout the day. Meditation is important to guard yourself against any attacks the enemy may throw your way through the duration of the day. We combat the enemy with God’s Word. Furthermore, life is stressful and things will not be perfect through the day. Meditation is a first guard from reacting in a way you shouldn’t. In regards to your morning routine, once you are done your devotional– reflect on it while getting ready to go.
Praise and Worship Music
Uplifting music is a great way to boost your spirit, mood, and energy while getting ready. Like I previously stated, I am not a morning person. Praise and Worship music gives me a great push. I like to play the Spread the Gospel playlist from Spotify. It also helps you to meditate on God’s goodness, love, grace, and mercy while getting ready.
As you can see, all of these suggestions go hand-in-hand to having an amazing morning with God! Let’s each grow in this area and begin spending more and more time in His presence daily!
