Jamahl had always been different. Despite growing up in one of the toughest projects in Philadelphia, he had plenty of opportunities to turn to gangs, drugs, and violence; however, he dared to be different and go a different route. His choice did not come without obstacles: Jamahl grew up being bullied and feeling alone and invisible, even within his own family.
Everything came to a head for Jamahl when, while trying to break up a fight, he was shot three times. This trauma, along with other external pressures, led to him entering the lifestyle he always tried so hard to avoid. It would not be until years later that he would reach out to God and fully understand that he was never alone at all – God had always been with him.
