Imagine having millions of fans and performing on international stages, yet you feel incomplete. In addition to this madness, you receive a life-altering diagnosis at the onset of adulthood. This was Selena Gomez’s reality, last year, once she found herself receiving aggressive chemotherapy treatment and admittance into rehab.
Now, in a healthier state, Gomez attributes her miraculous change to her new relationship with Christ. In a recent interview with Vogue, Gomez says she now spends more time with her church friends than anyone else.
“I think 17 people have my phone number right now. Maybe two are famous,”Gomez said. To showcase her commitment to Christ, Gomez uses her social media accounts to share the Gospel . On Instagram Gomez’s bio states, “By Grace Through Faith” which is from Ephesians 2:8. In the New International Version, the verse reads,“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Below her bio, she has posted sermons from pastors including Judah Smith who leads City Church in Los Angeles and Brian Houston who leads Hillsong.
Last year at the Hillsong Church’s Young & Free Revival Concert in Los Angeles, Gomez performed her worship song, “Nobody,” for the first time. On stage she said, “Tonight is more than a concert, it’s more than Hillsong, it’s more than me coming on stage and singing a song for you. It’s about a relationship that is greater than anything, guaranteed.”
Take a look at her performance:
“Nobody” is Gomez’ declaration to God that nothing can replace God’s love. She pens that her darkest sins are now erased because of God. His love is incomparable and can never be duplicated. Let’s rejoice for her life being changed as a result of God’s love and commitment towards his children.
