Critically acclaimed Bishop Eddie Long passed away on January 15, 2017, after a battle with cancer. His passing sent shock waves through the Christian community, and on January 25, the public will be allowed to say a final goodbye to the mega church pastor and celebrate his work.
We feel this great loss and would like to do our part to help honor and celebrate Bishop Long’s legacy. Please enjoy our small token of appreciation to Bishop Long and his work for Christians all around the world.
Bishop Eddie Long was born in Huntersville, North Carolina, on May 12, 1953, to Rev. Floyd M. Long, Jr. and Hattie Long. In 1977, Long earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from North Carolina Central University. He later went on to earn his Master’s of Divinity from Interdenominational Theological Center in 1986.
In 1987, a year before earning his master’s, Long took on the position as Senior Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. This position and the work he did while in it would put his ministry on the national scale. He was the pastor of New Birth until his death.
Bishop Long was the subject of much controversy in his life, but he never backed down from his faith and his beliefs. He adamantly proclaimed Christ and His word until the very end.
Bishop Eddie Long leaves his wife, First Lady Elder Vanessa Long, 4 children Eric, Edward, Jared and Taylor and 3 grandchildren to cherish his memory. Services are being held January 25, 2017, at 11:00A M at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.
“Although his transition leaves a void for those of us who loved him dearly, we can celebrate and be happy for him, knowing he’s at peace.” – First Lady Elder Vanessa Long
