“Fear not, for I am with you. Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10
Do you remember asking your parents for your favorite sweet treat before leaving the grocery store when you were a toddler? When it was showtime you would muster up your biggest smile, puppy dog eyes and ask the big question only to receive a flat out no. In disbelief, you would more than likely ask again only to receive a firmer no and that look from mom that said, “Alright don’t push it.” Yet, you would and then the real you would appear this time with the temper tantrum.
Tears would flow like waterfalls down your face, followed by screams and rants about how life was not fair. You would continue whining by saying it was only a snack and you just had to have it. No matter how hard you screamed your parents would just look at you, shake their heads and say something like, “Keep crying and we’ll give you something to cry about when we get home.”
More than likely you would carry on and end up with the consequence of a lifetime once you got home- whether that be a time-out, whooping or no play for the day- all because of a sweet treat. Looking back at that moment, you are probably thinking, “Begging for a treat… I would never do that again. I was such a baby.’’ However, my question to you: is are sure?
Think about it, when our finances are low, when we lose our job, when our relationship doesn’t work out, we tend to have fits and relive our toddler days. We cry, scream, worry, rant and ask God the infamous, “Why Me?” And what does He do? He looks at us, shakes His head and says, “Fear not, for I am with you.“ Although we are aware of His presence we will pout and think to ourselves, “There must be a better way.”
With such mindset, we then decide we have had enough and try to take our situation in our own hands, which only puts us in a worse scenario than we already were. For God has already informed us in Exodus 14:14 that, “He will fight our battles and all we need to do is sit and be still.”
Can you believe it? Our Father just wants us to sit back and watch Him work. Yet again, we have ants in our pants and want our wish right then and there, so we keep moving until we have no other moves to make.
Now, just like we were as toddlers, we have cried our eyes dry, received no treat and we lay in a fetal position wishing our lives were much better. It is then that God comes and comfort us and lets us know, “Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’’
You see, as toddlers when our parents did not give us what we wanted, it was not because they did not love us or they hated us to be happy, it was because they knew what was best and knew when a better time would be to give us our gift.
God is the same way. He knows what is best and knows what time will be best for you to have your breakthrough. All He wants us to do is simply give our problems to Him and let Him handle our situation. He does not want us to get upset or angry, but He wants us to have joy and peace and know that this situation will not last forever. It is truly a challenge to watch God work His magic while we sit back and do nothing, but it is possible. When you find yourself in a physical bind, ask God to help you keep self out of the situation and let Him do his work and I promise in due time you will get your sweet treat.
