I Failed a Test….What Do I Do Now?

A lot of people like to believe that Christianity is just a one-time deal or something you deal with every Sunday. Christianity is a constant walk, and not an easy one, for that matter.

God is always there and willing to help us overcome the many struggles and obstacles that can come with our walk. But God still wants us to learn how to handle certain things so we can be in the world without being of the world. God is our teacher, and just like any good teacher, He gives us tests to see where we are in our walk. These tests aren’t necessarily for Him, but they’re for us so we can see where we need to improve.

But what happens if we slip up? What if we fail a test?

It’s a 3-step formula:

1. Repent – Can’t be forgiven if you haven’t asked for forgiveness. Once that conviction seeps into your heart and you know that you’ve done something wrong, take that time to get on your knees, pray, and ask God for forgiveness. God knows we aren’t perfect and He always appreciates a repentant heart.

2. Don’t Beat Yourself Up – Remember, we’re only human – we’re all going to make mistakes! As I stated earlier, God knows we aren’t perfect, but that’s why it’s so important that we stay close to Him. Life is hard without God’s help and endless love! Everyone has struggles, just try to keep yourself from going back to that mistake again. It’s going to be okay!

3. Pursue Christ Even Harder –  Now that you know what you need to work on, learn from your mistakes. Don’t go to that person’s club anymore, don’t pursue a relationship with that person anymore, take that channel off of your TV. Instead, open your Bible, watch Christian programs, go to Bible study. Do what you have to do to flee temptation and get closer to God.

And it’s as simple as that! Don’t wallow in self-pity and don’t keep doing crazy stuff, expecting grace to follow you every time. Christianity is a constant learning process – embrace it and move forward!
